Sedans, once revered as the epitome of elegance and luxury, are now facing stiff competition from SUVs and hatchbacks in the Indian automotive market. With a demand for greater road presence and higher ground clearance, people are opting for compact SUVs, where sedans once ruled. The top 10 best-selling sedans in India include the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura, Honda Amaze, and the Skoda Slavia. There are others with them, and this blog will tell you all about them.

Top Best-Selling Sedans in India

There are many mass-market sedans in India, among which some made it to the list of the top 10 best-selling sedans in India. Let us have a look at them:

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Speaking about the top 10 list, the first place is held by none other than the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. India’s best-selling sedan is commanding a remarkable popularity with almost 17,000 units sold and dispatched this year. This top-selling car saw 10 per cent growth both monthly and yearly. Among all the sedans on the best-selling list, the total sales of Maruti Suzuki Dzire are more than the collective.

Hyundai Aura

In the second spot is the Hyundai Aura with over 4,000 units sold. Although MoM sales dipped by 17 per cent, the Aura remained a strong contender in the sedan segment. There was a YoY decline in the sales of Aura of 7 per cent. We can understand the fact that there is a huge gap between the highest-selling sedan and most most-selling sedan in India.

Honda Amaze

With sales of 2000 units, the Honda Amaze marks a 12 per cent YoY growth, holding the third position. But there was a steep decline in the monthly sales by 44 per cent.

Tata Tigor

In the sub-4m segment, the Tata Tigor is the least-selling sedan in India. The car sold over 1200 units with a MoM decline of 12 per cent and a YoY decline of 40 per cent. This includes the iterations of ICE and EV models. This places the car in fourth position.

Volkswagen Virtus

The Volkswagen Virtus sold over 1600 units and holds the fifth position in the list of top best-selling cars in India. There was a monthly decline in sales by 18 per cent, with the highest yearly growth of 36 per cent.

Skoda Slavia

The story for the Skoda Slavia is also not very good. With over 1000 units sold, the growth percentage for this car dropped by 16 per cent. This led the car to be in sixth position in the list of top-selling sedans in India.

Hyundai Verna

After Slavia, the seventh spot is held by Hyundai Verna with sales of over 1000 units. Verna recorded a MoM decline of 26 per cent with the biggest shock for YoY decline of 36 per cent.

Honda City

The most affected sedan remains be Honda City, with not even 500 units sold. The highest MoM sales drop recorded by this car is 65 per cent. The car comes to be in the position of number eight.

Maruti Ciaz

The Maruti Ciaz also faced a decline of 16.73 per cent in its sales. Only 707 units were sold with a market share of 2.86 per cent. This makes the Maruti Ciaz number nine in our list of the top-selling sedans in India.

Toyota Camry

The last sedan to make it to the list is the Toyota Camry, with 14.92 per cent of YoY decline, with only 154 units sold in a month. There was a decline of 27 units from the previous month. It has a market share of 0.62 per cent.

Conclusion

It is not unknown that people prefer SUVs over sedans in India because of two main reasons, which are already mentioned in this blog – Road presence and ground clearance. Maruti Suzuki Dzire managed to keep its sales momentum of over 10,000 units on a monthly basis, only on the robust base of the Maruti brand. Apart from it, the rest all the sedans are struggling to even stand against it. However, Hyundai Aura, Hyundai Verna, Honda Amaze, and Tata Tigor are crunching out decent numbers, but things don’t look great for them.
